Answer: The Open Studios Tour is an Art Tour of the home studios of local artists in the Altadena and Pasadena area. Normally these studios are open by appointment only. During this bi-annual tour, the artists open their studios to people to come in for a visit. Open Studios also has members who own local retail businesses and/or restaurants who support art and artists by featuring art for sale and display art in a gallery setting.
Answer: There are over thirty-five artists exhibiting in 22 locations. Each location is unique. Detailed brochures will be available at each location, that will feature a map to all of the studios. You are welcome to come in to the studios, look at the art, ask questions, meet and visit with the artists and other attendees of the Tour.
Answer: The tour is a two day event from 11 am until 5pm at each locale. You can take as much or as little time as you are comfortable with, and/or visit as many locations as you desire. It is a weekend of art to share and enjoy, an opportunity to learn more about the community, art and artists. Many of the locations will feature light refreshments and some will have musicians. We want you to have fun and enjoy the beauty of the day and art.
Answer: Yes. (except when posted otherwise) When you take a picture, you take the artist’s work with you. Take a business card too, so the artist’s name goes with the work. If you upload your picture of the work, please tag the artist’s name.
Answer: Even though the emphasis of Open Studios is building an artistic community, artwork does change hands during the tour.
Unlike a gallery setting where you will only see a small fraction of the art from a particular artists, Open Studios allow art lovers to pour through dozens of artworks from large scale painting and sculpture to small intimate studies that the artists create as part of their practice.
There is something for everyone. It is the best way to gain an appreciation of art and the creative process behind it.
Open Studios is an artist-lead event, we don’t take any percentage from art sales.
